The University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health (UIC SPH), located in vibrant Chicago, is seeking an innovative and experienced leader and educator to serve as our next Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The position will hold a concurrent clinical faculty appointment with an open rank (associate or full) in one of the following four Divisions of UIC SPH, commensurate with the academic background of the candidate: i) Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences; ii) Epidemiology and Biostatistics; iii) Community Health Sciences; or iv) Health Policy and Administration. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will lead and oversee the UIC SPH Office of Academic Affairs and will provide academic and curricular leadership and oversight of the administration, evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of all degree (i.e., BAPH, BSPH, MPH, MS, MHA, MPH, DrPH, and PhD) and micro-credential (e.g., certificate) programs in the school, while enriching faculty and student experiences. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the School’s academic program compliance with all federal, state, and University regulations and standards as well as those of accrediting bodies (e.g., Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), ABET).
  • Conduct competitor analyses to assess the market competition and identify opportunities for academic program growth for the school.
  • Work with school leadership to develop and implement new and innovative degree, joint degree, and micro-credential programs, including building a more robust online program presence.
  • Identify and implement programs to support faculty development and training on curricular and pedagogical issues as well as best practices in online learning.
  • Demonstrate strong professional characteristics including leadership, strategic thinking, integrity, a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, and an ability to execute initiatives and to work collaboratively with faculty and staff across all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in the Dean and the School’s leadership team, serve as ex officio on schoolwide committees related to academic and curricular matters, and represent the school on campus-wide committees related to academic affairs.
  • Oversee course evaluation processes.
  • Oversee schoolwide programs and curricula including the MPH Integrated Core and the MD/MPH degree program.
  • Be a significant contributor to school- and campus-wide accreditation-related reports.
  • Supervise Undergraduate and DrPH Program Directors, Academic Affairs staff, and the SPH Ombudsperson and oversee the academic aspects of the Global Health Program.
  • Serve as the SPH Student and Academic-related Grievance Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in public health or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with curricular and program development in a CEPH-accredited school or program of public health.
  • Demonstrated experience with academic program evaluation and/or accreditation compliance/reporting.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with curriculum development and teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • At rank of Associate or Full Professor at current institution.
  • Curricular and program development leadership-related responsibilities in a CEPH-accredited school or program of public health (e.g., MPH Program Director).
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and/or leading online public health-related micro-credential (e.g., certificate) or degree programs.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting programs/training for faculty on instructional effectiveness/best practices in teaching.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Scholarly work in teaching and/or pedagogy as well as public health issues.
