Job Details

The Department of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television is searching for two accomplished screenwriter/educators with extensive professional experience to join our faculty.  Both are full-time, tenure-track positions with competitive salary and benefits.  The appointments would begin in Fall 2024. 

Degree and Teaching Experience: MFA. or terminal degree in screenwriting or a closely related field required. Interested applicants should have a minimum of three plus (3+) years of university level teaching experience.

Each successful candidate should have experience working in the industry (Hollywood, Independent, or International) and should have significant credits/experience in writing on at least two of the following platforms:

  • Domestic or global feature films
  • Cable or network television series
  • Streaming or digital/new media

The successful hire will teach courses in Screenwriting with a focus on developing and writing long form feature scripts and/or a focus on writing hour-long TV pilots. One or more of the following skill sets is highly desirable for each position: 

  • Adaptation, the process of adapting existing intellectual property to both film and television formats. 
  • One-act playwriting
  • Video-game writing

The successful hire will be expected to maintain a high level of professional teaching and engage in the transition of students into the entertainment industry by recruiting mentors and participating in our professional transition programs.  They will also be expected to serve on committees and as academic advisers. In addition, service to the university and the department is expected in accordance with tenure-line leadership standards and departmental leadership.
