Job Description
The National Corn to Ethanol Research Center at SIUE is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position that will play an integral role in the research currently be conducted by Dr. Jie Dong, Director of Fermentation at NCERC. The NCERC at SIUE is a nationally recognized research center dedicated to the development and commercialization of biofuels, specialty chemicals, and other bio-based products. NCERC’s versatile laboratories, fermentation suite, and pilot plant are staffed with veteran engineers, operators, and scientists who offer the insight and experience needed to ensure your project’s success. Clients benefit from the ability to take their process from the lab to intermediate to pilot scale, conveniently in one state-of-the-art facility. The primary work responsibility will be assisting Dr. Dong on a USDA funded project, which is engineering yeast strains on the expression of an enzyme. The selected individual will assist Dr. Dong in the design of self-initiated research projects as well as projects that fulfill commitments made to external funding sources such as sponsored projects and grants. They will also assist Dr. Dong with the on-boarding and project design of contractual research projects with companies from the private sector.

The Fellow will assist in training and mentoring staff/students before and during the execution of the research projects and also assist with authoring the documentation associated with project preparation, execution and completion, such as the scope of work, protocol, and final report. Lastly, this position will assist with the management and maintenance of Dr. Dong's research areas, and lead/assist with the preparation of a project by setting up the experiment in the research areas.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicant must have a PhD (ABD applicants may be considered) in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, agricultural engineering, biological sciences or a related field. Experience with metabolic engineering, especially engineering in eukaryotic cells, is strongly recommended.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently, ability to design experiments and a strong background in statistics; troubleshooting of analytical equipment; excellent written and oral skills, and attention to detail.
