IT Linux System Administrator IV - Office of Innovative Technologies

 

The University of Tennessee’s Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) is seeking to hire an IT Linux system administrator contractor.

This position is responsible for working with Linux team to support Ansible technologies and system upgrade projects. Ansible system configuration experience is necessary in order to perform the duties assigned to this position.  The candidate will install, configure, maintain, and perform testing of Ansible and Linux (Red Hat) operating systems, related utilities, applications, and hardware.  The candidate is responsible for troubleshooting Ansible, operating system, software, and application issues.  Monitors systems activities and fine-tunes configuration to optimize performance.  Performs system utilization analysis to ensure systems are following best practices for security and utilization.  Develops automated procedures for routine administration including design, patching, deploying software, implementing Linux server configuration etc. Python or other system programming is needed to develop new applications.



Qualifications

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:  

·         Installs, configures, administers, and troubleshoots Linux operating systems to support business requirements and provide optimal Linux knowledge

·         Installs and configures Linux to support applications

·         Works with configuration management tools (Ansible)

·         Works with virtualization technologies (VMware tools)

·         Scripting and automating processes are required in this position

·         Documents the system configuration and upgrade processes

·         Communicates well with team members and customers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

·         Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

·         Four years of experience administering Linux or one of its derivatives in an enterprise environment and three years of experience with automation software configuration

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Six years of experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux or one of its derivatives in an enterprise environment, three years of experience with Ansible or similar automation software, two years of experience with MySQL and MariaDB administration

JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

Required:

·         RHEL 7 or 8 administration: OS installation and configuration, apply OS update as needed.

·         Ansible experiences

·         Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, both written and orally

·         Excellent organizational, planning skills and project management skills on system or application upgrade

·         Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy

·         Shell scripting for system automation

·         Coaching and mentoring Jr. system administrator skills

 

Preferred:

·         Experience with Azure or Oracle cloud infrastructure

·         Experience with VMware, Tenable security, VEEAM backup, Cohesity backup, and network knowledge

·         Experience with Kubernetes

·         Experience with OpenShift 4.x

·         Experience with DHCP/KEA and DNS

·         Experience with Python programming

·         Experience with Project Management
