The Department of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania will have one tenure track Assistant Professor position available with specialization in any field.

We are a collaborative and interactive department. Our faculty and students are dedicated to applying vanguard theoretical, computational, and empirical methods to answer questions of general economic research and policy interest. The Department of Economics is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences, which is comprised of 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. Interdisciplinary research and collaboration are supported by the breadth and depth of academic pursuits at Penn as well as the proximity of resources on our contiguous green urban campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We promote and encourage curiosity, intellectual engagement, and discovery among all our students and faculty, and strive to create a friendly and inclusive work environment for all. University, School, and departmental resources that support our efforts include but are not limited to: Penn Institute of Economic Research (PIER), the Offices of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Vice Provost for Research, Penn Global, Wellness at Penn, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Penn Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, and Penn Human Resources.

The department offers two majors, an economics major as well as a mathematical economics major. The economics major provides students an understanding of the modern discipline of Economics, and the mathematical economics major is designed for students with a strong interest in both economics and mathematics who will potentially consider pursuing a graduate degree. Combined, our two majors have consistently been the largest undergraduate major in the School of Arts and Sciences. Our vibrant Ph.D. program houses about 100 students from across the globe. Our graduate students often go on to become assistant professors in research universities and liberal arts colleges, or to work in government agencies or private sector.

Qualifications
Qualifications include:

● Strong research potential

● Capacity for teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and mentoring and supporting a diverse student body

● Ability to direct graduate/undergraduate research

● Candidates are expected to receive their PhD by the time of appointment
