Writing - Nonfiction Tenure Track Position

Rank:

Tenure Information:

Tenure Track

Job Description:

Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Nonfiction Writing expected to begin in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be multi-disciplinary in creative nonfiction and have a track record of writing in several areas (with an emphasis on the creative, e.g., memoir, personal essay, lyric/narrative essay, literary journalism, etc.). We seek an individual with broad interests and the ability to teach a variety of courses beneath the general umbrella of nonfiction. Given that the successful candidate will lead workshops and craft classes in both the undergraduate division of the college and the graduate MFA program, prior teaching experience at the college level is strongly encouraged.

The application should include the following: cover letter; curriculum vitae; statement of teaching philosophy, including consideration of pedagogical and curricular inclusivity; two sample syllabi for courses that the candidate might offer at Sarah Lawrence; a 20-30 page sample of writing; and three letters of recommendation. Writing samples should ideally reveal the applicant’s ability to work within more than one area of creative nonfiction. We encourage candidates to learn more about the philosophy of education and pedagogical approach that makes Sarah Lawrence distinctive and to indicate both in their letters and in their syllabi how they might envision working in this format.

Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2023, and will continue until a successful candidate is chosen. Should the review of your qualifications result in a decision to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by email.

Compensation listed for this position is for a full-time tenure-track faculty position and will be contingent on teaching experience.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold an MFA or its equivalent and have a strong publication history, including at least one book released from a recognized press.

Salary:

$70,000 to $85,000
