*Note: The application due date has been extended* The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Departmental Director, Division of Hematology. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment as a Hematology care specialist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date will be as soon as possible. An aspirational leader is sought to drive change and advance the academic enterprise of the Division of Hematology over the next five years. The ideal candidate will be an internationally respected scholar and visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills. They will meaningfully engage the academic leadership of the University and the affiliated teaching hospitals to build strong cross-department and cross-discipline collaboration, bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. The individual will establish an overarching vision and strategic direction for the Division. The Director reports directly to the Chair of Medicine. The Division of Hematology consists of over 93 faculty and has one of the largest Hematology residency training programs in Canada, with over 14 residents in our residency training program, as well as 40+ fellows in different subspecialties who have come from across Canada and abroad to train here. Sited at Mount Sinai Hospital, Unity Health, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and University Health Network, the Division of Hematology at The University of Toronto is one of the largest, multi-center groups of clinical Specialty scientists in Canada. We are dedicated to expanding the knowledge base of causes, treatments and cures for disease; to provide unparalleled care to patients; and to train the next generation of practitioners. The depth of expertise and accomplishments of our faculty, and the breadth and rigor of our training and research activities serve to highlight the vigor of our division. The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in North America, with 946 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 19 sub-specialty divisions located across 6 fully-affiliated hospitals, 4 community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. The Department of Medicine is a research powerhouse with $162+ million annual research funding. Applicants must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in Hematology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure in Ontario. The preferred hospital site for the Director’s clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and be one of the following University’s fully-affiliated sites: Sinai Health System, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, or Unity Health Toronto - St. Michael’s Hospital. Estimated total remuneration from all sources will be in the range $350-450,000 and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and clinical work.
