Bioengineering Tenured or Tenure Track Positions 2024

Location:
Philadelphia PA
Open Date:
Aug 14, 2023
Description:

The Department of Bioengineering is engaged in a multi-year effort to fill tenure-track and tenured positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels.

The University of Pennsylvania provides unique opportunities for multidisciplinary research. Bioengineering is prominent in the strategic plans of the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the University emphasizing integrative research in all aspects of human health that range from fundamental to translational research. All of Penn’s twelve schools are situated on one campus making it an ideal environment for multidisciplinary research. Bioengineering seeks to enhance its integrative research and educational programs. We are especially interested in candidates whose interests are aligned with the school’s strategic plan (https://www.seas.upenn.edu/about/strategic-plan/).

Thematic areas for growth of our program include precision engineering for health, intelligent and autonomous systems for engineered life, and engineering and artificial intelligence models powering digital health, which encompass a variety of subdisciplines, technologies, and applications in bioengineering. However, we encourage applications from candidates in any emerging area of bioengineering.

Qualifications:

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering or a related field. At the assistant professor level, individuals should demonstrate superb academic credentials and promise for a career in bioengineering research. At higher professorial levels, an evident track record of research excellence including successful competitive research funding and academic standing is expected.

A commitment to teaching should also be apparent including development of undergraduate and graduate courses, supervision of doctoral students, and academic advising of students at all levels.

We seek individuals who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. Our faculty participate in departmental and school-level efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, and to work closely with students to identify and address diversity challenges. We request a discussion of candidates’ experiences in establishing and maintaining supportive, inclusive environments for diverse student communities, and what plans they have for being involved in diversity efforts at Penn.

Penn Engineering strongly supports dual career couples, and we welcome and encourage inquiries about dual career assistance (for academic and non-academic opportunities) at an early stage of the recruitment process.

Vision

As engines of knowledge and new ideas, universities have the unique potential to define the future rather than be defined by it; to pioneer change rather than merely manage it. To do so requires a plan both visionary and pragmatic. The Penn Compact 2022 motivates community members to innovate, be radically inclusive, and positively impact their local, national, and global communities.

Penn’s fundamental priorities — increasing access, integrating knowledge and engaging locally, nationally and globally — are supported by the three core values that make us uniquely Penn: inclusion, innovation, and impact.
