The Director of Career Services plans, designs, oversees, and administers a comprehensive and successful program of Career Services to ensure that every student in the College of Law is prepared to search for, and has a high likelihood of obtaining, long-term, meaningful, and professional employment upon graduation or shortly after. This position is part of the senior leadership at the College of Law, and is involved in planning at an enterprise level, collaborating with other senior leaders at the College to develop and implement the College's strategic plan. This position is responsible for collecting and reporting graduate employment data that are critical to the College's continued accreditation. The Director of Career Services is also responsible for the supervision of Career Center staff members. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and indirectly to the Dean of the College of Law.Qualifications
Required Experience and Abilities Candidates are required to have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school or equivalent and 5 or more years of career placement, or equivalent, experience. However, 7+ years of legal experience is preferred. The Director of Career Services must have: - An understanding of law student and graduate school placement and job-seeking more generally- Knowledge of methods needed to effectively attract and recruit potential employers who can offer job opportunities for graduates with legal training, including jobs requiring a J.D. degree and those in which a J.D. or L.L.M. is a distinct advantage - Knowledge of ABA rules applicable to law schools- An understanding of the data gathering by other constituencies, including US News- The ability to create comprehensive plans and strategies for job placement and attracting prospective employers (foreign and domestic)- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)- The ability to lead and inspire staff- The ability to adapt to changing employment trends- The ability to create a vision for department- The ability to work responsibly and independently- The ability to manage and work within a budget- Be detail-oriented- The ability to meet deadlines- Good public speaking skills- An understanding of social media and other publication media, as well as web-based job search systems such as Symplicity- A willingness to travel Applications will be considered as they are received and will continue until the position is filled.
