Job Details

The School of Music at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts invites applications for a full-time faculty position as an orchestra conductor at the rank of Associate Professor (non-tenure track) to lead orchestral studies at the School. The ideal candidate will have a substantial international performance profile, student/alumni success at the college level, extraordinary leadership of orchestras and choruses in universities, and administrative experience within an academic environment. In addition, a successful applicant will enjoy working in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion. A terminal degree is desired, although demonstrated professional equivalent will be considered; previous teaching and conducting at the collegiate level is required.


The position requires the direction of the university ensembles at the highest level for undergraduate (BM) and graduate performance programs (MM, DMA) students. The position is also charged with direction of DMA graduate students in conducting. The successful candidate will show evidence of collegial and professional working relationships within applied realms and exhibit an aptitude for leadership opportunities with the School of Music.
