Position Description

The Department of Child Development at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

  • This is an academic year Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Child Development. Applicants with a demonstrated strong teaching and scholarly record may be appointed as a Tenure-track Associate Professor with up to two years of credit towards tenure or a Tenured Associate Professor.
  • Begin date is August 2024.
  • We are seeking candidates with a doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Developmental Psychology, or a closely related field. The area of specialization is in Early Childhood Education or closely related areas.
  • Responsibilities

  • Teaching and advising undergraduates; mentoring undergraduate research and scholarship
  • Conducting scholarships in line with the mission of the department, college, and university
  • Providing service to the department, college, university, and the profession
  • Assist the department in developing a curriculum that complies with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) standards and requirements
  • Take leadership in identifying quality preschool fieldwork sites
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Developmental Psychology, or a closely related field by the start of the appointment
  • Background in Early Childhood Education or related areas
  • Evidence of teaching Child Development related course(s)
  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds
  • Evidence of scholarship that is in line with the mission of the department, college, and university
  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience at preschools
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of teaching Child Development related course(s) for 10 academic terms (10 semesters or 15 quarters).
  • Evidence of active and ongoing scholarly and creative activities (minimum of three peer-reviewed publications and four conference presentations in the past 5 years)

    Department of Child Development

    The Child Development Department resides in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. We have about 1000 undergraduate majors from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Our students seek careers working with children and families. We are integrated into our local community through our fieldwork courses and strive to emphasize a sense of social responsibility throughout our curriculum.

    Mission

    The Child Development program focuses on the study of individual development from conception through adolescence within a plurality of contexts. Students are provided with fundamental knowledge of theoretical and methodological concepts, developmental processes, and current issues in the field. We believe that child development professionals play an important role in society with a significant impact on children. To ensure that our students graduate as well-prepared professionals, our program rests on three fundamental elements of knowledge, skills, and integrity.

    Additional Information

    The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,450 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,900 to $7,150.

    The Associate Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,190 to $13,172 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $7,900 to $8,200.

    This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.

    Background Check
