Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 32 hours per week.

The Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator (Program Specialist in the PCC classification system) works independently to evaluate the instructional needs of students, assign appropriate subject areas using education software (e.g. Aztec Learning System), work with students individually and in groups, and monitor student progress, assigning new subject areas as needed. As students progress through the program, the position collaborates frequently with Department of Corrections staff, officers, and counselors in order to balance the competing demands on the time and energy of the adults in custody.

Another important component to the position is the recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring of adult in custody (AIC) peer-tutors assigned to ABE/GED students. There is ongoing collaboration with tutors and the Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator regarding lesson planning, educational strategies, educational resources and the readiness of students to test (both CASAS and GED).

The position is responsible for the general cleanliness and security of the lab in cooperation with DOC security and security plus staff, providing a safe environment and reporting security and/or maintenance problems as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

Positions in this classification typically require a blend of administrative experience, including expertise with technological resources, and experience or training related to the program or service to which assigned.

A typical way to meet these requirements would be:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent units
  • Two years of responsible experience related to the program area of assignment (Note: Experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis)

Candidates must provide their own transportation to the South Fork Forest Camp work site.

Position Grade20Starting Salary ExpectationsThe first two steps of the range are: $24.43 to $25.16 per hour. Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age. Partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions (full-time employees only).

Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWork is typically performed in a standard office environment and exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis. Duties typically involve managing multiple priorities, handling interruptions, deadlines and other work pressures. Some positions may require local and long distance travel and the use of a personal vehicle.
Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding and ten-key functions.
