The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Department of Music invites applications for an adjunct/part-time artist-teacher of horn. The successful candidate will teach weekly private studio lessons beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, which starts on August 29, 2023. The per-semester contract may be renewable.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Earned M.M degree in horn performance or advanced degree in music with relevant professional and artistic experience. 

Proven record of high-level artistry and performance experience in solo and chamber music, as well as professional orchestra settings. 

Private studio teaching experience with various levels and abilities, as well as substantial collegiate level instruction (including as a TA).

The availability and commitment to teach regularly in-person during the semester. 

Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including timely communication via email.

Desired Qualifications: 

Familiarity with K-12 teaching and/or instrumental pedagogy. 

High visibility in and beyond the mid-Atlantic region.

Demonstrable commitment to student recruitment and growth and stability of the horn studio.

Responsibilities:

Give weekly in-person private lessons (for both music majors and non-music majors) on TCNJ’s campus (Ewing, NJ) at mutually agreed dates between the instructor and the students, following the College’s academic calendar, i.e., leading 13 weekly lessons per semester. 

Provide course syllabus and mid-term and final grades in a timely manner.

Participate in brass area jury exams during the final exam week.

Attend degree recitals of students in the horn studio.

Participate in entrance auditions of prospective horn students. 

Additional course(s) such as chamber ensemble coaching may be available depending on the departmental needs and candidate’s expertise and interest.

Compensations:

Salary will be per studio instructional hour.

Separate honorarium may be available for additional departmental recruiting events such as "Music Major for a Day." 

There will be no moving or travel (mileage, toll, etc.) cost reimbursement attached to this position.
