The College of New Jersey's Department of World Languages and Cultures is seeking dynamic adjunct instructors to teach one to two sections of FRE101, in Fall 2023 (August 29 to December 9, 2023). These classes have been scheduled for the following on-campus meetings:
- FRE101-01 Tuesdays and Fridays 9:30-10:50
- FRE101-02 Tuesdays and Friday 11:00-12:20
The textbook is Liaisons: An Introduction to French
Minimum qualifications: applicants must demonstrate at least near-native fluency in French and English, and hold an M.A. degree, or its equivalent, in French or in foreign language education with an emphasis on the teaching of French.
An understanding of modern communicative approaches to language teaching, including task-based, proficiency-oriented instruction is highly desirable. Preferred qualifications include prior experience teaching French to American learners at the college level.
Note: These courses will be offered in-person at TCNJ's campus in Ewing, NJ. Only candidates within a reasonable distance will be considered.
The Basic French sequence (FRE101, FRE102, and FRE103) is founded on the five C’s of the National Foreign Language Standards. Students will have the opportunity to practice the three modes of Communication to learn about Francophone Culture and to make Comparisons between their first language and culture and the French language and culture. In addition, students make Connections to other fields of study unavailable to them through their native language. The goal of the basic French sequence (FRE101-FRE103) therefore is to produce students with an observable and definable degree of language proficiency. Proficiency is measured by the achievement of particular benchmarks as defined by ACTFL in the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and supported by the five C’s cited above.
When applying, please submit CV, letter of interest/teaching statement, at least one sample teaching material, and course evaluations if available.
