Sound and Video Manager

Description: The Clarence Brown Theatre (CBT), a LORT D Theatre on the campus of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks a Sound & Video Manager.  The manager will be responsible for leading all sound and video design installs for all CBT productions, Theatre Department events, and Theatre Department academic spaces.  This role ensures the maintenance of all audio and video equipment and oversees the inventory procurement and upkeep in these areas in coordination with production needs/requests.  This position will report to the production manager and will coordinate with resident and guest sound and media designers for 7-8 productions a year.  This position will supervise graduate students and undergraduates assigned to work in the sound area, and occasional over-hires.  Potential teaching of sound technology and/or design opportunities exist for the interested candidate.    



Qualifications

Position will:

  • Collaborate with sound and video designers, Production Manager, and other Staff to achieve desired designs within designated budgets.
  • Maintain inventory and purchases of all departmental sound and video equipment.
  • Archive designs as to content and installation.
  • Supervise installation and setup of various equipment and instruments according to requirements and safety.
  • Oversee the installation and use of comm systems.
  • Attend technical rehearsals as needed, instruct students on equipment as needed.
  • Hire and supervise over-hire technicians as needed for installation and strike of per-show systems.
  • Collaborate with contributing departments to ensure department needs are met for all events. 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Experience with theatre sound systems, programming, and live mixing (musical production preferred) is required.  
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and work comfortably at heights is needed. 
  • Ability to work nights and some holidays required. 

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • BA/BFA or MFA or equivalent in professional experience preferred.
