Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:Under general supervision supervises and coordinates activities of law enforcement personnel on an assigned shift or area to ensure the protection, safety, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors and the protection of University property.
Essential Duties Summary:- Enforces policies and procedures.
- Manages a shift of police and security officers to make sure that students, faculty and staff are safe.
- Supervises, schedules, assigns work, and evaluates the performance of law enforcement personnel assigned to shift or area. Provides in-field instruction, training, and counseling to subordinates.
- Conducts shift “roll call”, provides daily briefing sessions regarding criminal activity, special assignments, and events. Inspects uniforms, equipment, buildings, and vehicles.
- Prepares, reviews, and distributes various reports on incidents, operations, and other activities.
- Coordinates responses to calls, conducts preliminary investigations of incidents, and protects crime scenes. Interviews or supervises the interviews of suspects, witnesses, and victims.
- Provides general service, courtesy escorts, information, and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus.
- Identifies hot zones for criminal activity and high-volume pedestrian travel and develop a plan for proactive police patrol presence.
- Serves as a departmental representative or liaison to internal and external groups, as designated.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range:Commensurate with experience.
Education:Sixty-college credits/Associate degree. Along with three (3) years’ experience as a commissioned officer with Texas Southern University Police Department, or a total of five (5) years combined law enforcement experience.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensed as a Texas peace officer through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Intermediate peace officer certification (TCOLE).Valid Texas Driver’s License.Field Training Officer Certification (FTO)
Advanced peace officer certification preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Federal, State, Local and County laws.
- Demonstrates full/complete knowledge in an area. Requires command of technical and functional procedures, processes and subject matter in a job family or professional discipline to handle most situations and lead and/or review the work of others in multiple job classifications performing diverse responsibilities.
