SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Systems Support Administrator is responsible for the University-wide print platform management and maintains relevant vendor relations. They oversee and collaborate closely with Senior IT Service Center Technicians on solutions for end-user device management and deployment automation. They manage end-point protection and data leakage protection tools. The Systems Support Administrator works closely with other systems administrators on maintaining the infrastructure for these services. Their typical week consists of monitoring device management and deployment compliance, end-user device security, planning and deploying patches to operating systems and software tools, resolving escalated support cases, and regular meetings with the IT Service Center team, the IT Infrastructure team and other constituents. They are responsible for documenting their work. They actively seek improvements in their daily work flows and processes to improve efficiency. The Systems Support Administrator provides excellent customer service to our campus community in support of the academic and research mission at UMass Dartmouth.

They follow the University's best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the deployment of multi-function and print devices with the IT Service Center technicians
  • Ensures that the print devices are integrated with the print platform, accounting systems, and end-user workstations (currently Pharos and direct print)
  • Oversees the deployment automation and device management tools (currently JAMF, SCCM/inTune)
  • In working with the other systems administrator, designs, implements, and supports an enterprise Linux workstation management solution
  • Tests and deploys patches, fixes, and upgrades to operating systems, software packages, and applications; documents evidence that established protocols are followed to maintain audit compliance
  • Ensures backup schedules are maintained; regularly tests restoration functions and documents evidence of the tests
  • Supports Active Directory, multi-factor authentication, and related security integrations of end-user devices
  • Participates in security engagements, vulnerability scanning as well as IT audits and compliance efforts
  • Supports log aggregation and analysis and critical system monitoring (SIEM integration)
  • Works closely with the Senior IT Service Center Technicians to align end-user software, device management, and deployment automation with customer needs, and enable tier 1 and 2 support
  • Stays current with vendor update releases and their criticality
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation within the scope of their responsibilities
  • Tracks and resolves escalated cases in the IT case management system
  • Promotes cross-team and cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Participates in system and application integration testing efforts and provides feedback to technical staff
  • Participates in professional development opportunities
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organization needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE:

  • Significant (over 5 years) experience with end-user device operating system support
  • Demonstrated (over 3 years) experience with deployment automation and device management solutions
  • Demonstrated (over 3 years) experience working with a case management solution in the daily workflow
  • Previous (over 1 year) experience with end-point protection and data leakage prevention
  • Previous (over 1 year) experience with print platform management

OTHER:

  • Will need to be available for off-hours, evening and/or weekends as projects dictate.
  • Will need to lift and move technology equipment
  • Some travel may be required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Significant issue resolution skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work assignments successfully in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to approach projects and problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation
  • Ability to make written and oral presentations clearly and effectively
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation (i.e. workflow diagrams, implementation instructions)

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Previous experience with JAMF and/or Microsoft SCCM/inTune
  • Previous experience with the Pharos platform
  • Relevant certifications in operating system administration
