Summary:

The Assistant Manager is responsible for working with the manager to ensure the completion of all duties for the central sterile processing department.  Participates in developing, updating and enforcing policies and procedures.  With the manager, coordinates unit activities with all clinical areas.  Maintains and documents accurately the performance and conduct of the sterile processing staff and works with the manager in initiating disciplinary action when necessary.  Maintains appropriate inventories and orders supplies, replacement instruments, and equipment as needed.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience with instructional decontamination and sterilization of supplies, instruments, and equipment required.  Certified and registered central service technician.  Experience in managing staff in a similar setting or willingness to participate in training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Must be able to work Mon-Fri from 10AM to 7PM,

*Requires leadership ability, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, organizational ability and ongoing commitment for the unit’s adherence to relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations.

*Requires knowledge of sterilization equipment, and sterilization and infection control policies and procedures. 

*Knowledge of dental terminology and ADA procedure codes.

*Knowledge and skill in applying supervisory principles and practices. 

*Skill in operating a personal computer and using Microsoft Office software to produce a variety of forms, schedules, reports and communications required. 

*Must be familiar with dental materials, instruments and equipment.
