Adjunct Faculty - Immersive Media

Chatham University is accepting applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty.

Our Immersive Media program is interdisciplinary with a focus on inter-department collaboration, research, and course development. Adjunct faculty for the program will be expected to work with the full-time faculty to explore expanded applications for immersive technologies.

Position Summary:

This adjunct position is in the field of immersive media focused on virtual and augmented reality design and experience development.

Many courses in the Immersive Media program are taught with a project-based iterative design pedagogy that has faculty working side-by-side students in our design studio space.

This position covers teaching classes that may include (but are not limited to):

  • Introduction to Game Design
  • Human Centered Design
  • Integrated Design Research
  • Introduction to Immersive Media

As well as Immersive Media's project-based studio courses from introductory to advanced levels.


Duties and Responsibilities:

This position's primary responsibility is teaching. We welcome adjunct faculty who will collaborate on course development for the Immersive Media program curriculum, as the field is constantly evolving.

Frequently, this position will work with other Immersive Media faculty to provide project support, student feedback, and enable collaborative opportunities for students.

In this role, you are expected to participate in departmental meetings and university trainings for adjunct faculty.


Required Qualifications:

  • Have or show potential for collaborative interdisciplinary immersive design work and/or research practices using immersive technology to solve difficult problems.
  • Practical experience outside of academia (i.e. with a game development studio, design consultancy, or other company focused on immersive or relevant projects).
  • Candidates with a combination of academic and practical experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

Our field and department are an eclectic mix of different types of skill sets and backgrounds. Candidates who believe they may be a good fit are encouraged to submit an application or reach out with questions.


Desired Qualifications:

  • A master's degree or doctorate degree is encouraged. Exceptions can be made with appropriate industry experience.
  • Experience teaching programming, particularly creative coding (such as with Processing, Unity/C#, TouchDesigner, or Arduino platforms).
  • Experience teaching with creative technology such as media arts, 3D modeling and animation, audio engineering, or game design and development.
  • Experience in the field of HCI, such as UX/UI design.
  • Experience teaching or applying human-centered design principles.
  • Ability to teach either Unreal Engine or Unity for immersive development.
