Postdoctoral Research Associate-Part-Time

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the postdoctoral is to participate in testing and validating multiple machine learning models to estimate NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and O3 (ozone) datasets over the contiguous U.S. The individual will physically assess and interpret surface-level NO2 and ozone values to understand the long-term trends in the U.S.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Analyzes NO2 data collected from the satellite remote sensors of the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Sensor and the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI).
  • Develops new machine learning tools to improve satellite observations on ground-level air pollutants.
  • Compares machine learning outputs with other simulation outputs and observations to adapt and improve predictions.
  • Prepares and facilitates presentations of research findings and results at professional conferences.
  • Performs the research required by the faculty supervisor to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
  • Works in a collegial and cooperative manner with the faculty supervisor and other co-workers.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Machine Learning required. This position requires a strong understanding of satellite remote sensing data, atmospheric science and machine learning.Must possess excellent writing skills to produce reports/papers for publication, and business correspondence and e-mails. The incumbent must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Must display attention to detail and ability to handle multiples assignments. Additionally, the incumbent must possess good oral communication skills with the ability to effectively present information, in one on one and group situations, and respond to questions from other employees, and managers is necessary. Must display attention to detail and ability to handle multiples assignments.To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), which includes such things as creating forms, using formulas, and be very internet savvy. Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook or similar software. Duties may also include creating tables, spreadsheets, pivot table and graphs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with machine learning tools (TensionFlow, PyTorch) is preferred.
  • Some experience working with programming languages Python, IDL or R is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; and use hands to prepare experiments, handle lab equipment, talk and hear, and to operate computer.
