Job Summary

South Georgia State College is seeking applications for part-time faculty to teach courses within the Bachelor’s degree program in Long-Term Healthcare Managment. Located in rural Georgia, South Georgia State College is a multi-campus university with an enrollment of over 2500 students.   • Meet each class as scheduled at the designated time and place and for the designated length of time
  • May require travel to all SGSC campuses and sites
  • Conduct office hours
  • At the beginning of each course, provide each student with a syllabus per the guidelines in the faculty handbook
  • Maintain adequate records of student progress including posting mid-term grades in Banner
  • Submit correct proof rosters and grades in Banner by the assigned deadlines. Record daily attendance according to institutional policy
  • Submit assessment data to discipline committee chair in a timely manner

  • Mastery of the teaching discipline
  • Ability to engage students in higher order learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
  • Ability to align instruction with student learning outcomes
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures

  • Each part-time faculty member reports to the appropriate Department Chair and School Dean


  • Guidelines include college policies and procedures, department policies and Board of Regents policy and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application


  • The work consists of varied administrative duties and coordination of primary functional areas. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position
  • Success in this position contributes to the efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance of all department operations


  • Contacts are typically with students, co-workers, other college personnel and members of the public
  • Contacts are typically to provide services; to give or exchange information; to resolve problems; to motivate or influence persons; or to justify, defend or negotiate matters

Required Qualifications
  • The completion of a Master’s Degree plus 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential. Technology skills and good interpersonal skill are required
Preferred Qualifications
    Three years teaching experience in a higher education setting

Waycross College is a two-year college and one of the newest institutions in the University System of Georgia. It is located in rural southeast Georgia and serves a ten-county area adjacent to the Okefenokee Swamp. Five major buildings, including a new state of the art Student Services Center, are located on the 150 acre campus. Off-campus classes are offered in the city of Hinesville.

The College is widely recognized as a place for students who want to enter the job market with a solid foundation in liberal arts or transfer successfully to a baccalaureate program at a four-year institution. The College does an excellent job of preparing its students for both.

Waycross College is a non-residential college of 980 students. The student body is diverse, and the average age is 25. Students may choose to major in one of 30 associate degree programs in areas such as business, criminal justice, history, psychology, and teacher education. Flexible class scheduling and an academic support center assist students in making the most of educational opportunities. Waycross College students perform well on the Regents’ Test and have good success upon transferring to four-year institutions. The Adults Start College Grant helps returning non-traditional students achieve success in higher education.

Partnerships with the community are particularly evident at Waycross College. The College is an active supporter of the Okefenokee Arts and Entertainment Alliance.

There is no lack of outside activities for students. Concerts, special lectures, social events, cultural exhibits and intramural sports are just a few of the extracurricular activities offered at Waycross College. Students also may participate in leadership opportunities through Phi Theta Kappa, the Multicultural Student Alliance, the Drama Club and Outdoor Adventurers Club.

Waycross College was founded in 1970 by the University System of Georgia to serve the growing southeast Georgia region. Classes began in 1976.
