Serving under the Associate Provost of Accreditation and Quality Improvement, the Director - Nursing Accreditation works with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences to provide leadership and expertise to support accreditation and regulatory-related work. This position is a dedicated collaborator with the school on behalf of the Provost Office to project manage quality assurance-related activity and efforts to ensure compliant, accredited, and quality nursing programs in relation to internal and external standards. A summary and breakdown of responsibilities across areas of accreditation, academic assessment, and curriculum management are provided below.

This position is based out of the university’s home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30am – 5:00pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the internal resource on all related accreditation requirements for compliance with nursing education standards.
  • Research state and federal regulations, campus policies, accreditation standards, and university best practices to assist in the development of nursing organizational policies. Keep current with and disseminate information regarding nursing programmatic accreditation.
  • Evaluate organizational processes and determines action(s) needed by work units to be compliant with standards. Identify and prioritize nursing risk areas and implement programs, processes, and/or actions specifically designed to reduce organizational risk and liability.
  • Ensure aspects of school/college follow best practices complying with nursing accreditation standards, serve as a resource for faculty and staff for training on nursing accreditation initiatives, and communicate regularly to promote awareness of accreditation-related activities encouraging institutions-wide involvement.
  • Work with school/college faculty, Department Chairs, Deans, and the Associate Vice Provost on all accreditation reporting and related matters.
  • Work collaboratively within the college and across the university to prepare required accreditation reports and host scheduled accreditation site visits.
  • Maintain files of accreditation status, schedules, documents and correspondence from nursing regulatory and accreditation bodies (programmatic, state, etc.).
  • Support the ongoing and timely collection, analysis, and use of data to support accreditation and regulatory needs.
  • Strategically manage all regulatory requirements and ensure accreditation and state compliance within the school of Nursing. Coordinate institutional assessment and evaluation.
  • Support reporting processes and provide educational assessment and program review expertise to the nursing programs.
  • Ensure the use of quality data (assessment, program review, accreditation and regulatory requirements, industry information) to inform program development, maintenance, and improvement. 
  • Support curriculum development, modification, and approval for purposes of quality assurance.
  • Monitor records of new courses, new programs, and course or program changes to submit to respective agencies and external entities (state boards, programmatic accreditor, etc.).

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited college or University
  • At least three years of related experience in a health care environment in regulatory, compliance, quality assurance, accreditation, safety, and/or risk management capacity.
  • Knowledge of regional, national/federal, state, and specialized postsecondary accreditation standards, practices, and goals related to nursing programs.
  • Experience engaging in assessment and data-informed continuous improvement work.Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of integrated program planning, development, and administration within a higher education institutional environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse members of the college community including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and accreditors.
  • Demonstrated ability for effective organizational skills and ability to connect to the institutional strategy while displaying attention to detail.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of data systems, definitions, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.
  • Leadership skills, ability to motivate staff in continuous improvement efforts.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university plus at least three years of experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse and/or as a faculty member in a registered nursing education program.
