Summary:

Reporting to the Department Chairperson, the Sr. Lab Manager for the Civil and Environmental Engineering department will maintain all labs for safety, operation, and hygiene. Prepares labs for teaching classes and works closely with faculty and Teaching Assistants in the department. Performs routine maintenance of lab instruments, including but not limited to AA, weighing balances, BET analyzer, GC-MS, HPLC, IC, Millipore water, pH meters, TOC, UV-visible spectrometer, UPLC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS, UPLC, UPLC-QToF, ICP/MS and others. Also works on safety compliance with state and Temple University EHRS regulations and policies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technologies, sciences, or instrumentation and at least 4 years of directly related experience in a related field. Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the operation, maintenance, and basic repair of laboratory equipment, including Tinius Olsen, MTS, direct shear, weighing balances, BET analyzer, GC-MS, HPLC, IC, Millipore water, pH meters, TOC, UV-visible spectrometer, ICP/MS, UPLC/MS/MS, GC/MS/MS, UPLC, QToF, and others. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 
Preferred: 

  • Advanced degree.  
Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Computer skills to run commonly used office software (Microsoft Word and Excel) and instrument-specific software (i.e. ChemStation and WinLab). 
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students for safety and training. 
  • Strong, well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and effective presentation abilities. 
  • Self-motivated. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills. 
  • Strong team player and individual contributor. 
  • Ability to think at a strategic level; translate strategy into action, and execute.  
  • Ability to form and maintain good working relationships with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Personal integrity and professional manner.
