Position Summary

The International Admissions Advisor will work under the lead direction of the Director of International Recruitment. The primary responsibilities of the position are to lead advising and to support international graduate prospects, applicants and admitted students through academic and administrative support, and assist in efficiently serving visitors to the Office of International Recruitment while providing excellent customer service. In addition, the incumbent will work collaboratively with Graduate Admissions, International Student Center, graduate departments, and other offices on campus to support the international graduate and undergraduate admissions processes.

• Providing admission advising to international students visiting the International Recruitment office throughout the stages of the admission process (prospect, applicant, admit, and pre-arrival).
• Supporting international graduate applicants on the admission process and program information. Working with Graduate Admissions evaluators, supporting their collection and review of documents, to ensure files are completed and sent to the departments for review.
• Assisting in the receipting of official international student documents and managing the tracking to ensure documents are processed and returned to students.
• Utilizing my.SDSU (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) to identify and analyze the status of applications, providing guidance to applicants on required documents needed for file completion and steps to enroll.
• Providing on-going input and feedback on the email communication and admission web sites to ensure the information provided is current, accurate, and appropriate.
• Providing on-going feedback to the Director on print materials needed for international graduate and undergraduate students.
• Reviews correspondence and supplemental information and evaluates transcripts, test scores and evaluation service reports to determine admission eligibility.
• Support sponsored students throughout the recruitment and application process.
• Creating international training materials to support student assistants working in the International Recruitment office.
• Providing on-going training to student assistants to support prospective, applicant and admitted international students.
• Working closely with Graduate Program Advisors to support their admission processes and effectively communicate with students procedures to ensure timely completion.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Enrollment Services comprises Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Prospective Student Services, Out of State, Specialized and International Recruitment, and Enrollment Services Communications. Enrollment Services implements SDSU enrollment management policies and provides services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Key Qualifications

• General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
• General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and general knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
• Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
• Ability to obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews.
• Ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,610 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month.
