Assistant Director of Admissions
The Johns Hopkins School of Education is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, this position serves as a primary recruiter and admissions advisor for an assigned number of graduate academic degrees within the School, which includes doctoral and master's level degrees and graduate certificates.

The position is part of the Admissions Office team and collaborates with academic program faculty and staff, Marketing Communications, Student Affairs, and the Office of Student Enrollment Account Management (SEAM) to develop and implement sustainable and results-oriented recruitment and application fulfillment efforts that meet the School's new student enrollment yield and revenue goals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment & Admissions Outreach 60%

  • Provide accurate degree information to prospective students on program eligibility, the admissions application process, deadlines, and requirements.
  • Perform one-on-one correspondence with prospective students, conducting in-person and online information sessions and guiding prospective students from inquiry through application to acceptance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all School of Education credit-bearing programs and application procedures.
  • Develop and implement annual recruitment and communications outreach plans for assigned programs and populations of students.
  • Coordinate and work with SOE academic program faculty and program coordinators to schedule pre-admission appointments for prospective students (in-person, phone, or video conferencing).
  • Proactively track and communicate the status of incomplete program application materials with candidates and audit pending files for missing documents.
  • Proactively guides newly admitted students' onboarding activities, including acceptance of offers/deposits, providing referrals to academic programs for first-time advising and registration, financial aid, billing, and student services offered through JHU's centralized Student Enrollment and Account Management (SEAM) Offices.
  • Research and resolve newly admitted student issues, respond directly to new students, and refer matters as appropriate to other service offices.
  • Travel regularly as assigned to recruitment events, which require periodic evenings and weekend hours and occasional overnight travel.


Application Processing Support (20%)
  • Assist the Admissions Systems Administrator during peak application submissions to perform GPA evaluations, move completed files, and assign ret research the status of files for divisions, contacts students by phone or email to collect missing information reviews admissions records for complete and accurate information, and audit pending files for missing documents.
  • Serve as a backup to the Systems Administrator in all regular tasks and functions related to application processing and Slate system maintenance.
  • Participate in University-Wide monthly Slate Users Group meetings.
  • Assists Systems Administrator in annual Slate Cycle Preparation with academic programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Data Collection, Reporting, & Analysis (20%):
  • Compile historical data, international/regional/national trends, and SOE's enrollment forecast data to determine effective recruitment strategies.
  • Designs and implements surveys and reports quarterly on admissions and newly admitted student data.
  • Utilize campus admission/enrollment reporting tools to collect, analyze, and distribute admissions statistics throughout the admissions cycle.
  • Compile and send weekly recruitment and admissions app. status to Program Coordinators and Faculty Leads monthly.
  • Prepare applicant data for presentation at admissions committee meetings and monthly report-outs to department/program faculty.




Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Professionally represent SOE with knowledge and energy at conferences and organizations and with external recruitment/admissions pipeline partners.
  • Work effectively and professionally with faculty, administrators, students, alums, and external constituents.
  • Independently and accurately counsel prospective students to provide smooth transitions and conversions from inquiry to first enrollment.
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of client relationship management software (CRM) functions, preferably Slate Technolutions.
  • Active and current knowledge of applicant life-cycle data strategies and marketing recruitment best practices for admissions recruitment.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse and international populations verbally and in writing.
  • Extensive knowledge of marketing principles, best practices, and techniques relevant to student recruitment and admissions.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategies for recruiting a diverse student population in a higher education environment, particularly in the online space utilizing social media and digital content management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including communication.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet competing time frames, and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of SOE's admissions requirements, processes, academic programs, and services.
  • Knowledge of the Slate admissions platform is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to be flexible throughout the year and handle additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One-year related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of related experience.
  • The physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to bend, stoop, and kneel to set up and take down admissions displays.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated track record in meeting goals in an educational or related environment.
  • Proven track record of successful diversity recruiting is strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in higher education student recruitment and admissions preferred. Consideration for backgrounds in both non-profit and/or for-profit higher education.
  • Previous experience with Slate or other student applications and CRM platforms preferred.
