GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Dean of Industrial Technology reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, CTE, and is responsible for administering a number of academic programs. The Dean leads a department that includes full-time and adjunct faculty members and support staff. The Dean promotes communication, community, and collaboration within the department, advocates for faculty and department goals, facilitates communication between the administration, faculty and staff, and works collaboratively with other deans in the Liberal Arts and CTE program areas.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide leadership and vision in the development and implementation of the department's goals and priorities and facilitate their achievement.
    • Identify current and emerging trends and opportunities in the department disciplines to develop and maintain visionary and responsive courses, student support services, and community partnerships.
  • Mentor, supervise and evaluate the faculty and staff, coordinate departmental staff development programs and activities, and provide for the orientation of new employees, communicate administrative policies and actions to the faculty.
    • Promote and encourage faculty and staff professional development, including support for innovation and instructional and research opportunities.
    • Coordinate faculty workload decisions to ensure appropriate staffing, equity, and efficient resource utilization.
    • Coordinate the preparation and submission of all reports required from the department by other areas of the college, state agencies and accrediting bodies.
    • Prepare the annual budget and supervise its implementation as chief budget officer for the department.
    • Assist in providing for proper facilities, equipment and materials to meet the needs of the instructional programs.
    • Advocate for faculty and department goals within the college creating an atmosphere supportive of input and innovation.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with area high schools and colleges, appropriate businesses, agencies, and community organizations and individuals in the College's service area.
    • Foster collaborative partnerships with the community.
    • Manage course and program enrollment with in the department.
    • Cooperate with other departments and divisions of the College in student recruitment, retention, placement, orientation, and informing the public of the College's programs and services.
    • Resolve student concerns and requests (e.g. conflicts, exemptions, waivers, recommendations, and transfer articulation questions), with the assistance of the Dean of Students office.

    • Possess a working knowledge of educational trends in the field that enable leading the department to meet emerging educational needs.
    • Express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
    • Establish and maintain good team working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and general public.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree and an associate’s degree or two years experienced in a discipline represented in the department.
  • Business and industry experience within a career and technical profession.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience at the college level.
  • College teaching experience in Career and Technical Education.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of trends and issues related to community college education.
  • Community college experience.
