Job Summary:

The School of Education, in the College of Professional Programs at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a Lecturer position to begin September 16, 2023. This position is a one-year appointment for AY2023-2024 with the option for renewal based on funding availability and department need.

The Education Program is seeking a colleague with a strong commitment to students, collegiality, and outside partnerships. The faculty member hired for this position will be welcomed into an academic community dedicated to cultural diversity, community engagement, and social justice.

The individual selected for this position will:

  • Teach core education courses in both elementary and secondary programs (e.g., classroom management, foundations courses, introduction to education, and assessment).
  • Support education students in providing instruction that aligns with state standards and meets students’ needs.
  • Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
  • Provide oral and written feedback to Education students.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with colleagues, candidates, administrations, and participating teachers.
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings.

Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department, if needed.

Conditions of Employment:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Education (Degree required by start date of 9/16/2023)
  • At least 3 years’ teaching experience in K-12 Education or extensive experience in K-12 education
  • Interest or experience in teaching college level courses
  • Experience in teaching diverse learners (i.e., culture, race, low SES, first generation college students, etc.)
  • Experience and/or education which demonstrates knowledge of data driven instruction with positive impact on P-12 student learning
  • Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability in promoting cultural competency and/or diversity
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. degree in education or related field
  • Professional development in or experience with instructional coaching
  • Experience serving as a faculty member in higher education in a Department of Education
  • Experience supervising and/or evaluating instructional coaching with adult learners, peers or candidates in the field
  • Experience teaching in middle level
  • Experience teaching and designing online courses
  • Strong knowledge of classroom assessment, classroom management, and/or literacy
  • Experience teaching using the Canvas instructional platform

Responsibility / Duty:

  • The initial workload will consist of the following activities, and are subject to revision by the Chair and Dean to meet changing departmental/program needs; 15 Credits per Quarter = 45 Total Credits
  • Provide oral and written feedback to Education candidates.
  • Support Education candidates in providing instruction that aligns with state standards and meets students’ needs.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with colleagues, candidates, and cross-campus partners.
  • Teach undergraduate-level courses in Education.
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings.
  • All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and related activities, and in assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
    • Meet all scheduled classes
      • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
    • Schedule and attend office hours
    • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
