Job Purpose:

The Dean of Undergraduate Admissions leads the Office of Admissions and supervises all five areas within the office, including: recruitment, access & pre-college programming, visitor experience, international and veterans & special populations. The Dean provides leadership to a diverse group of team members and creates and maintains a culture of shared responsibility and innovation. The principal strategist and thought leader within the office, the Dean must establish admission strategies, policies and procedures in accordance with the goals and priorities of the institution, as well as be committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. The Dean is responsible for managing the day-to-day office operations, recruitment plans, selection process and budgetary activities and services. The Dean serves as an integral and collaborative member of the university community to implement and prioritize the institution’s Strategic Plan and commit to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of enrollment planning.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree or equivalent in Higher Education or related field is required. Six years of progressive supervisory and management roles in admissions or student services/affairs. Ability to develop and utilize information technology systems to run an efficient operation, utilize data to forecast enrollment trends and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment activities. Excellent communication and organizational skills; proven leadership abilities and the skills and desire to build and maintain an office wide culture of positivity and professionalism. Excellent writer and dynamic presenter. Demonstrated experience with the recruitment of diverse student populations. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able read, review, interpret and use information technology to forecast and project enrollment trends and develop processes to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and initiatives that support enrollment and the goals of the institution. Must also have excellent communication and organizational skills; proven leadership and interpersonal skills; and the ability to articulate the College’s academic position as a competitive liberal arts and sciences institution. Must have knowledge of the principles of higher education and a selective and competitive college selection process.

Additional Comments Regarding Position:

This position will require travel outside of the Charleston area frequently. Additionally, overnight stays out of state, as well as weekend and evening work will be required at varying times through the admission cycle.

Complies statistical data and prepares periodic reports regarding enrollment projections and recruiting initiatives and activities. Analyzes data and stays abreast of innovations and best practices to make recommendations for changes and enhancements to the Administration.
