Job Description:

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking an Evening/Weekend Shift Painter who will promote Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by keeping the university buildings and grounds, clean, neat, and in a safe manner.

General Statement of Job:

  • To provide painting, wall repairs and light carpentry services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and maintenance needs; preparing, painting, or staining a variety of surfaces; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; assisting other maintenance staff; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at the job site

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan Intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Coordinate with assigned supervisor for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
  • Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of obtaining materials to ensure job completion
  • Maintains vehicle, tools, and facilities for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventive maintenance
  • Paints a variant of surfaces (e.g., buildings, walls, doors, frames, ceilings, railings, columns, floors, lockers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in an attractive, safe, and useable condition
  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function
  • Prepares a variety of surfaces (e.g., cleaning, sanding, patching, masking, nail holes, cracks, joints, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that they are ready for painting and /or refinishing
  • Removes graffiti (e.g., cleaning walls, graffiti removal, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintaining attractive facilities
  • Request’s equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and /or repair
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties
  • Responds to any emergency as required and is responsible for snow removal as assigned
  • Attend all department training sessions.
  • On call responsibilities may exist.
  • Employee MUST follow all University and departmental rules, regulations/policies, and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to read drawings and blueprints and interpret specifications.
  • Must have the ability to understand and apply industry standards for installation, repairs, and safety.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-4 years’ experience and knowledge in repair and general maintenance.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.

Physical Demands:

Physical Demands:

  • Walking, pulling, bending, lifting, pushing, stooping, ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds, but not more than 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders up to 6ft in height.
  • The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. This position will utilize lifts, as well as ladders and stools.
