Basic Function/Overview:
THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS.

You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.

DEFINITION
Under the clinical direction of the Director of Student Health Services for MT. SAC Community College the Staff Physician provides medical care to students of MT. SAC and guides the delivery of medical care by other health care professionals and practitioners in SHS.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical and Supporting Administrative Duties
  1. Assess emergency situations and take prompt appropriate actions including the initiation of emergency therapeutic procedures in response to life threatening situations.
  2. Provides immediate care for acute conditions including appropriate referral for outside specialist treatment or hospitalization.
  3. Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with a broad range of primary care problems, injuries or illnesses, including medical, psychological and gynecological conditions.
  4. Prescribe medications, design treatment plans; coordinate patient care with allied health professionals.
  5. Perform CLIA waived lab testing and Provider Performed Microscopy (PPM).
  6. Refer patients to other health care professionals including appropriate specialists as needed.
  7. Consult with private physicians and public agencies to help secure treatment for patients requiring services beyond those available in the SHS.
  8. Coordinate with Mental Health professionals regarding management of mental health problems.
  9. Perform minor procedures not requiring general anesthesia.
  10. Establish, diagnose and document health care plans and expected outcomes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) using SOAP format, problem lists and medication lists.
  11. Counsel and educate patients on related medical/personal problems and health measures.
  12. Provide follow-up on treatment to ensure the appropriate resolution of illness or injury.
  13. Actively participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) activities.
  14. Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws.
  15. Provide emergency/disaster care during a campus disaster.
  16. Serve as physician consultant resource or preceptor to Nurse Practitioners.
  17. Provide medical instruction and clinical supervision to assigned SHS staff including, but not limited to Nurse Practitioners (NP), Registered Nurses (RN), Medical Assistants (MA) and Clinical Assistants (CA).
  18. Provide leadership and consultation as needed in such areas as preventive medicine, health education, environmental health and safety, and emergency preparedness.
  19. Collaborate with management on how best to meet the health care needs of the MT. SAC population.
  20. Use internet browser, email, Microsoft Office, Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) and practice management software applications used in SHS.
  21. Conduct virtual visits/services.
  22. Other Duties as Assigned

  1. The incumbent may periodically be required to travel to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
  2. Incumbents must possess and maintain the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in the State of California, including the following:
    1. A valid State of California license to practice medicine.
    2. A current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification appropriate for the assigned duties. See note below.
    3. A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances.
    4. Current BLS certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.
    5. A current, valid unrestricted California Physician and Surgeon license to practice medicine.
    6. Must pass a credentialing check, including verification of education, training and licensure.
    7. Must pass background check including fingerprinting check.
    8. Must possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
    9. As a condition of employment and continued employment, must be able to maintain strict adherence to HIPAA Standards.




Health & Welfare:
Persons employed for temporary employment are not eligible to participate in the College’s Health and Welfare plan or option fringe benefit plan in conjunction with their employment. Human Resources will track the eligibility requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Should a person meet the eligibility requirements, Human Resources will initiate an open enrollment period to enroll an ACA designated medical plan.
