The Department of Anthropology is concerned with the unity and diversity of humanity, human culture,and society from a comparative and global perspective. Members of our department have consistently included distinguished anthropologists of international renown, and continually provide research in a wide range of areas. As part of the University of Toronto, one of the world’s top research universities, our department conducts research that is broadly international, varying in method and theoretical frame to understand human experience in social, cultural, and evolutionary contexts. Under the general supervision of the Department Manager, the Administrative and Communications Assistant is the first point of contact for the faculty and students in the department, providing a wide range of administrative support and communications for the day-to-day function of the department.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Booking rooms and arranging appropriate accommodations
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Maintaining information on a website
  • Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
  • Coordinating the preparation and distribution of promotional/outreach materials

Essential Qualifications:

  • College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years recent and related experience in front line administrative support and communications preferably in a higher education setting
  • Experience assessing client needs and directing them to the appropriate resources
  • Experience with social media technologies, including content management and web platforms such as Drupal, image editing and Adobe
  • Experience writing and editing content for newsletters, social media and other digital platforms
  • Experience coordinating content for and producing marketing and promotional materials
  • Experience organizing events and programs
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization, time management and decision-making abilities. Able to multi-task and deal effectively with competing priorities.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OUtlook)
  • Strong client service orientation.
