Job Summary:

The University of Colorado, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking a Research Service Post-Award Specialist. This position is responsible for providing fiscal and sponsored project expertise and resources to the faculty and research staff of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This position will work closely with Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division faculty and staff, the Office of the Grants and Contracts (OGC), CU Medicine, appropriate individuals within the University of Colorado system, and external vendors and sponsors. The primary responsibility will be in sponsored projects management within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Responsibilities include clinical trials budget and billing management, fiscal compliance oversight, coordination of sponsor required reporting, and closeout activities. This position will also work closely with and provide back-up to the Grants Manager, Senior Pre-Award Specialist, and Senior Post-Award Specialist on all budgets and contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and analytical support to the division's post-award team.
  • Recommend process and procedure updates to improve workflow.
  • Work directly with DART to submit funding distribution updates for research personnel per payroll deadlines.
  • Submit timely payroll and journal entries to properly allocate effort for research personnel.
  • Run payroll and financial detail reports to confirm funding distributions are posting correctly; investigate and resolve errors as needed.
  • Collaborate with DART to send PI's monthly expense line-item reports for them to confirm expenses are allocated correctly to their research projects. If any expenses are misallocated process a JE/PET to move expenses to the correct speedtype.
  • Submit pre-award requests for future funding periods.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of a few days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Intermediate Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or other closely related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience in sponsored project administration, finance, accounting, and/or grants.

Senior Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or other closely related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years of experience in sponsored project administration, finance, accounting, and/or grants.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with clinical trials.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in financial reporting and/or finance/budgeting.
  • Experience working within an academic institution.
  • Experience utilizing University of Colorado systems: PeopleSoft, m-fin reporting, CU Marketplace and InfoEd.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Level: $52,312 - $66,541

Senior Level: $56,554 - $71,936

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
