Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Germanna Community College is seeking a part time College Attainment for Parenting Students (CAPS) Coach. This is a vital role, serving as a coach, resource, and guide to eligible student parents admitted into the CAPS cohort. The CAPS Coach provides high quality service allowing prospective student parents to navigate college courses and students support services, identify, and connect with on- and off-campus resources, and successfully complete their college degree or certificate. This is a one-year grant funded position supported by the College Attainment for Parenting Students grant, with the opportunity for renewal upon successful participation and completion of grant objectives

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead a CAPS Cohort of student parent scholars
  • Identify eligible student parents and collect student consent, as necessary, to facilitate cohort
  • Coordinate holistic student supports and resources for student parents
  • Develop and implement activities, events, programs, and workshops for CAPS cohort
  • Facilitate one-on-one and group coaching sessions for student parents
  • Provide support and assistance to Germanna's CCAMPIS federal grant program
  • Inform and participate in CAPS grant program evaluation activities, including monitoring and sharing student parent outcomes
  • Identify and share community resources, including childcare providers for student parents
  • Review Germanna's policies and practices and develop an improvement plan to better serve student parents
  • Engage in learning community activities such as topic-specific webinars and discussions.
  • Attend annual evaluation convenings

Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or a comparable combination of education and work experience
  • Experience working with students in higher education setting
  • Ability to analyze and make sound, informed, and well considered recommendations on complex issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, typing, web browsers
  • Extensive customer service experience with an ability to handle stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual, with a preference for Spanish
  • Experience using a Student Information System (SIS)
  • Understanding of academic and workforce programs
  • Previous work experiences a Virginia Community College System (VCCS) institution
  • Demonstrated experiences with and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
  • Knowledge of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the financial aid application process
