Position description

Latino Social Science Postdoctoral Pipeline (LSSPPI) seeks applications for two (2) Postdoctoral Scholar Employee to pursue research conducted under the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues.

The LSSPPI project goals are to create mentorship links across faculty, postdoctoral, graduate student and undergraduate levels. Our main effort is to address the severe underrepresentation of Latino Studies in the academy and help to train and develop the next generation of Latino studies researchers, data analysts, policy makers, and public intellectuals. In this, LSSPPI strives to use academic research to shed light on US and transnational Latino communities with the goal of improving their condition and effecting racial justice.
Their primary responsibilities will include research, mentoring, and professional activities research are the following:
  • Have a dedicated mentor at the Latinx Research Center who will meet with them regularly give them feedback on their work, and help their work progress.
  • Participate in regular in-person LSSPPI events and its monthly workshop
  • Present their work in a public forum at one time during their tenure
  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate mentorship
  • Create/Build a Latino Social Science pipeline

Postdoc will receive $2,500 annually for research and travel.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

-Maximum of three (3) years of post-degree research experience

Preferred qualifications
● A scholarly commitment to Latino Social Science thought and research. Including working with Latino data and knowledge of Latino theory, history, and thought.
● Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Strong facilitation and collaboration skills.
● Strong commitment to student mentorship.
● Ability to interact with a diverse population and engage diverse constituencies.
