With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Job Summary
A training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory focused on CRISPR genome editing in mice and studying phenotypes in mice with complex molecular and physiological equipment. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, confocal microscopic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection of mice procedures.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to: Research: Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques; Participate in molecular biology, physiology, bacteriological, cell culture, animal surgical, and dissection procedures. Project Planning and Protocols: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Scientific Literature: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally. Publications: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others. Advise: Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities. Scientific Equipment: Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment. Other: Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Skills in molecular biology are essential and working knowledge of myography and smooth muscle contractile assays is important.
Experience with handling mice and performing survival surgery is desirable. Training will be provided in mouse work is needed.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology or in any related biomedical sciences.

Preferred Experience
Experience in vision research and/or ischemic retinopathy models.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Willingness and ability to work with research animals
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and equipment
Ability to work independently with only general supervision
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality, complete work and meet deadlines
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
