The mission of the Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is to promote multidisciplinary research and teaching excellence in both biomedical and clinical sciences. We seek to attract outstanding faculty and bright students by creating a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative environment to foster success and creativity. Our faculty study a variety of fundamental questions ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, learning and memory, neuroprotection, development, inflammation and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. We also collaborate extensively with clinical departments. Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is also the home to the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core supported by the Georgia Research Alliance. The Medical College of Georgia is the flagship medical school of the University System of Georgia, the state's only public medical school, and one of the top 5 largest medical schools in the United States. Job Summary
Job Posting RefreshedA postdoctoral position in the Vitriol lab is immediately available to investigate the cellular mechanisms of motor neuron degeneration in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This project will be highly microscopy-intensive, involving significant use of live-cell and super-resolution imaging, as well as quantitative image analysis. Experiments will be performed using immortalized cell lines, cultured mouse motor neurons, iPSC-derived human motor neurons, and patient samples from the local ALS clinic.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform all research activities and data analysis associated with their project
  • Participate in project planning
  • Compose articles and literature reviews for publication in scientific journals
  • Apply for relevant funding opportunities
  • Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally
  • Supervise graduate student and undergraduate researchers
  • Interface with collaborators
  • Ensure that research is conducted in accordance with relevant local and federal guidelines


Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working with iPSC-derived neurons and/or performing research in cell biology, neuroscience, or microscopy-oriented labs is preferred, but not required

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
