Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a general maintenance repair person. Scheduled hours are Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with additional hours as needed. Maintenance employees are eligible for health and life insurance; vacation, sick, and holiday pay; extended year-end holiday pay; retirement plan; and tuition assistance benefits.
This position provides general maintenance and repair services to buildings, fixtures, utilities, and vehicles; performs inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, adjustment, repair, and replacement of mechanical and plumbing systems; fuels, maintains fluid levels, and conducts general safety inspections of campus vehicles; and repairs and maintains gym exercise equipment and other mechanical devices on campus including bleachers, sprinklers, fire alarms, and generators. Other duties include changing HVAC filters and performing small, light carpentry projects. Additionally, this maintenance repair person oversees the university key system including record-keeping, making new and replacement keys, and installing and replacing door hardware. This position also makes repair arrangements, orders equipment and supplies, and keeps maintenance records.
Successful applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of two years of general maintenance experience; general knowledge of maintenance of carpentry items and heating, air conditioning, steam, condensate, and chilled water lines; basic knowledge of safety checks and minor repairs to vehicles and small equipment; full range of body motion including lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; abilities to operate motorized equipment and hand and power tools; ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environments; excellent communication skills; and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations. Must also be a self-starter, team player, have basic computer skills, and ability to understand and follow directions.
