Reference no - 016043

The WaterLANDS project is seeking a Research Scientist for one year (12 months) to improve our understanding of the attractiveness of agri-environmental schemes and the public benefits of upland peatland restoration as perceived by the rural community.

WaterLANDS is led by UCD and brings together 32 organisations from research, industry, government and non-profit sectors in 14 European countries, aiming to scale up the restoration of wetlands across Europe, by co-creating elements of ecology, community, governance and finance. We have 6 restoration sites across Europe. In Ireland, our restoration site is the Cuilcagh-Anierin Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and is managed by the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature project. This restoration site focusses on applying results-based agri-environment payments (RBAPS) with farmers of upland blanket bog, to incentivise less impactful management practices. In addition, a set of more traditional physical restoration actions will be conducted such as drain blocking and long-term monitoring.

The project is funded through the EU Horizon 2020 Green Deal and will contribute to the restoration of wetland sites across Europe which have been damaged by human activity and is laying the foundations for protection across larger areas. The project will help to restore six wetland sites across Europe. It will also gain from the experience of 15 Knowledge Sites

Salary Range: 42,000 - 45,000 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
