Job Summary:
  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a Human Resources Consultant Assistant 1. The primary function of this position is to provide HR support for Human Resource Services by processing and inputting of employee and payroll information into our HRIS (Banner) and other systems as assigned; providing front office customer service and file management. This position will be the first point of contact for the Human Resources Office in person and over the phone. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a new graduate or someone just starting their H.R. career.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of office experience including a minimum six months of experience in a human resources or related setting.
  • Experience performing a high volume of data entry.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using a human resources information system (HRIS) such as Banner.
  • Experience using a report writer such as Tableau.
  • Experience as the first point of contact for an office or organization.
  • Experience working in Higher Education or school setting.

Job Duties:
% of Time: 40
Responsibility / Duty: Input data into the Banner system; maintain and update information as directed; and verify the input of other staff. Generate EWU IDs. Provide data from the system and perform testing on new enhancements as directed.

Responsibility / Duty: Provide information, interpretation and resolve problems; greet visitors and answer phones for HR Services, respond to questions pertaining to the assigned area of responsibility. Open and distribute HR Services mail. Create personnel files, file data into personnel files and assist with records retention.

Responsibility / Duty: Process payroll action forms to include reviewing information for accuracy, ensuring proper forms and justifications are attached, resolving issues, routing for approval and distributing copies as needed. Prepare payroll action forms as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty: Provide forms to new employees for completion to support payroll action. Assist with processing of paperwork. Provide checkout packets to employees upon separation. Perform background checks.

Responsibility / Duty: Share distribution of document such as performance evaluations for classified and exempt performance evaluations with HR Consultant Assistant 2. Assist HR Associates and Sr. Director-Human Resources with administrative duties.

Responsibility / Duty: Assist with the generation of data for public information and general information requests along with other needs for the Sr. Director-Human Resources as directed.Attend Banner user group meetingsSchedule meetings and rooms as assigned.Perform related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university fund or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check.
  • All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Information: $37,920 – $47,940.
In addition to the salary range listed, a wage increase of 4% will be applied to this position effective July 1, 2023.
