Job Summary:

Please note: CCRI Division of Workforce Partnerships is seeking qualified applicants for part-time English and/or Spanish instructors for the 2021-2022 semester calendar. We accept applications on an on-going basis and will contact qualified candidates as course availability opens.

Workforce Partnerships currently has openings for part-time instructors to teach:
· Contextualized English Mondays 8am-4pm. This is a 8-hour/week position at the Providence campus.
· Contextualized Spanish weekdays ranging from 4-8pm. This is a 3-4-hour/week position working remotely.

The Corporate Language Training (CLT) program collaborates with employers to design courses that address the unique needs of a learning group and that complement the workplace schedule. Instructors target communication challenges identified by the employer with high-quality, interdisciplinary language instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in high-quality language instruction in a diverse, inclusive, student-centered environment.
  • Ability to work with students with various learning styles, cultures, and life experiences both online and in person.
  • Prepare effective lesson plans and provide supplemental material to achieve course objectives and address student needs.
  • Integrate technology and active learning strategies to enhance instruction.
  • Keep detailed and organized records of students’ attendance, assessments, and progress, including a final evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the coordinator and other instructors in the program and attend meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development in adult education.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in TESOL, Education, ESL, or related field.
  • Relevant teaching experience in a higher education setting; experience teaching oral communication classes.
  • Curriculum/course development experience with a demonstrated high level of preparation and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, primarily), email, the internet for instruction and program purposes.

Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of oral communication challenges for adult students.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable with technology and course management systems. Knowledge of successful strategies for classroom management, especially in terms of linguistically and culturally diverse student.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility in the classroom is expected.

The College provides a variety of career, technical and academic programs at four main campuses in Warwick, Lincoln, Providence and Newport. A secondary Providence Campus is located in the historic Shepard Building in the heart of downtown Providence and courses are also offered at a satellite facility in Westerly.

CCRI offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs to its approximately 18,000 students and its non-credit classes for workforce training or personal enrichment through the Center for Workforce and Community Education receive more than 32,000 registrations annually.

Thirty percent of recent CCRI graduates who are continuing their education at least part time are attending more than 50 colleges or universities across the country and also are working at least part time. Community College of Rhode Island grants the Associate in Arts (A.A.), the Associate in Science (A.S.), the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.), the Associate in Applied Science in Technical Studies (A.A.S.-T.S.) and the Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degrees. Several one-year certificates are also awarded.

CCRI opens its facilities for public use, sponsors programs on issues of public concern, and offers workshops and seminars for small businesses, for government agencies and for individuals seeking to improve their skills or enhance their lives.
