Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in related field required prior to start date. Master’s degree preferred. One year of experience working in the field of Residence Life or related field. Proven management and leadership abilities. Must be willing to live on campus in a residence hall and be willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Primarily responsible for the operation of residence halls and the daily supervision of resident advisors. To accomplish this responsibility, supervision of staff, efficient administration of the building/complex, and maintenance of an atmosphere conducive to the health, safety and wellbeing of all residents is necessary.

Primary Responsibilities:

Administrative: processes paperwork in a timely manner based on the due dates given and in accordance with all policies and procedures; maintains accurate records of facility maintenance, rosters of residents, reports and other information necessary for the operation of assigned area; provides regularly scheduled office hours 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday.

Student Service: addresses student/parent concerns and build community; serves as an information resource and referral agent; enforces policies and provides behavioral counseling; develops and advises the Hall Council; oversees programming; attends and supports hall programs, maintains visibility throughout the hall community; maintains daily student contact and face to face availability for students.

Supervisory: carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures; assists in the selection, training, work scheduling, and performance appraisal of employees.

Residence Life: primary link between the Residence Life Office, Residence Life Maintenance and assigned area; maintains full communication with the Department of Residence Life staff regarding all areas of building/area operation; fulfills a secondary collateral assignment in the department; attend meetings as required; coordinates hall openings and closings; on duty for all on-campus residential areas several weekends and weeknights throughout the year which may include holidays; attends and supports special events; responds to emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Participates in a rotating duty system, department and campus committees, as well as professional development and training opportunities to include Residence Life staff training at the beginning of each fall and spring semester, and throughout the year as needed. Requires walking up multiple flights of stairs, frequently crossing campus, daily face to face customer service, and the use of a department provided cell phone. Knowledge of computers and general office equipment is helpful. Strong management, leadership and communication skills are necessary. This is a live in position, requiring the employee to live in an apartment located in the designated residence hall. There are no set working hours; however, the Department of Labor, Title 29, Part 785.23, Code of Federal Regulations, allows the exact hours worked under these circumstances to be determined by a reasonable agreement considering all of the pertinent facts. Therefore, as a condition of employment the incumbent agrees the average number of hours worked each week will be equal to the full time equivalency appointment. Contacts with students, parents, and other university departments are extensive.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
