Job Summary
Under the direction of the BYU–Hawaii Social Media Manager, the social media student assistant will primarily help in creating social media content and other marketing materials for University Advancement. Responsibilities may include creating content to share on social media platforms, editing content for newsletters, developing a marketing and communications strategy, and engaging with BYU–Hawaii's online audience. This position will offer the selected candidate excellent opportunities for:
- Real-world, on-the-job experience.
- Experience creating content for a recognized brand/entity for portfolio building.
- Working closely with campus leadership and diverse student body.
- Gain exposure to how the university introduces change throughout the institution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining the university social media accounts. Including creating, scheduling, posting, and updating content on primary social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube).
- Develop content for the above social media platforms that resonate with the university's audiences. From the initial idea, to producing content, then posting polished content.
- Assist in developing marketing and communication efforts to promote campus operations.
- Monitor social media for sentiment and other university-related online dialogue.
- Draft and publish articles used as content pieces for newsletters and social media.
Required Skills
- Strong oral and written language skills.
- Familiarity with the social media platforms listed above.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to organization and time management (responsible with deadlines).
- Ability to present yourself professionally as a representative of the University Communications department.
Preferred Skills
- Familiar with Meta Business Suite.
- Has experience working with social media scheduling tools (Hootsuite, Later, Sprout, etc.)
- Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style.
- Basic video and photo editing skills.
- Professional in work space.
- Creative. Thinks outside the box.
Work Experience
Preferred that you have experience in managing a social media account for entity or brand other than own personal account.
Physical Demands
Typical office environment. Occasionally standing outside in uncomfortable weather conditions for photoshoots or video shoots as part of creating content.
