JOB SUMMARY

The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) ensures the University of Connecticut’s (University) commitment and responsibility to foster equitable and inclusive working and learning environments across the entire University of Connecticut system (Storrs main campus and four regional campuses located at Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury as well as UConn Health (UCH)). OIE’s work focuses on consistent and neutral administration of the University’s non-discrimination policies. OIE also ensures University compliance with state, federal, and local anti‑discrimination laws.

The EEO and Search Compliance Specialist provides guidance related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA), and the employment search process. This position also utilizes statistical data for the purposes of planning, publication, program evaluation, and compliance with government regulations. The EEO and Search Compliance Specialist is expected to work at both the Storrs campus and at UConn Health in Farmington.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the EEO & Search Compliance Manager, the EEO and Search Compliance Specialist:

  • Prepares and updates annual federal and state Affirmative Action Plans (AAP) for Storrs and the four regional campuses as well as for UConn Health. Collects and organizes pertinent data and information for writing narrative reports regarding affirmative action programming and search and hire activity. Compiles and analyzes data and prepares quantitative charts reports. Establishes procedures and meets critical deadlines for accurately collecting and updating required information.
  • Works collaboratively with internal departments and external auditors regarding compliance in AAP preparation, workforce diversity goals and initiatives, and other related projects.
  • Assists with OIE review and evaluation of the unclassified and classified search and hiring process. Reviews search files for compliance with federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures. Works with hiring managers, employment search administrators, and Human Resources to provide guidance and assistance with resolution of identified issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from hiring managers, employment search committees and administrators, Human Resources, and members of the University community related to EEO/AA issues, the AAP, the search process, and related departmental procedures and policies.
  • Assists with developing standards for consistent guidance and responses related to EEO/AA matters based on University and departmental policies, procedures, and federal and state regulations. Employs good judgment in line with established policies and procedures in all communications and interactions with OIE colleagues and with the larger University community.
  • Maintains and updates computerized and non-computerized data files. Produces scheduled reports and updates.
  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in related areas and participates as directed in professional development conferences and workshops. Conducts research regarding substantive and procedural issues related to AA, EEO, diversity, and the employment search process.
  • Performs other functions or special projects which may be ongoing or short-term. Adapts day-to-day work schedule to the requirements of business priorities and urgent special requests.
  • The incumbent is expected to work both independently and as part of a team. They will demonstrate leadership in promoting diversity, equality, and inclusiveness within their team and University and work with and build relationships with diverse populations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • Two years of relevant work experience.
    • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.
    • Experience preparing organized reports and communications for various audiences, demonstrating professional written communication skills.
    • Experience working independently and successfully managing multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
    • Experience working with diverse populations.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Professional experience in higher education.
    • Knowledge of affirmative action and/or equal employment opportunity programming.
    • Experience in a deadline-driven work environment.
    • Professional interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
    • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
    • A high degree of individual initiative and strategic approach to tasks.

    This is a full-time position and the incumbent is expected to work at both the Storrs Campus and Farmington Campus.
