Position Summary:

The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA), a unit within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, provides support for faculty as well as oversight of faculty-related policies, procedures, and data for the University of Georgia. The office is also responsible for UGA Elements, an online system for documenting faculty activities.

The UGA Elements and Business Intelligence Lead in Faculty Affairs will serve as the principal contact in the Office of Faculty Affairs for business intelligence (BI) and reporting. This position requires advanced professional and technical expertise in researching, analyzing, reporting, and improving organization-wide operations processes. The position identifies reporting/BI needs and delivers reporting, data analysis, data integration, data visualization, self-serve dashboards, and BI support to OFA and other campus stakeholders through standard and ad hoc reports as well as works to identify reporting and BI needs to improve efficiency and communication. This role involves a high level of customer focus and proactively identifies tailored business needs and objectives from technical needs and specifications.

This position will also serve as the UGA Elements interface, support, and administrative lead, and will assist with any current or future systems that interact with Elements data. This role will meet frequently with counterparts in UGA Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) as well as work with faculty and staff campus-wide. This position serves as the principal training lead for UGA Elements and chair of the UGA Elements Interface Action Team and Project Team.

Additionally, this role will:

  • Identify and design complex analyses, projects, visualizations, and dashboards pertinent to various aspects of faculty data.
  • Identify the data integration needs for OFA-maintained data systems and support development and updating of systems to address those needs.
  • Develop and improve, independently and in conjunction with University Human Resources, Office of Institutional Research, EITS, and other University units, BI solutions for approvals and other workflows.
  • Partner with other OFA staff on the current Promotion & Tenure process and lead any future development projects in this area to ensure data integration is sound.
  • Assist with cross-functional business process design projects related to promotion & tenure, faculty hiring, and data.
  • Interpret and prepare reports, slides, and analyses for presentations and data requests regarding faculty data maintained by OFA.
  • Direct UGA Elements project, including updates, maintenance, training, administration, and expansion, as appropriate.
  • Develop and deliver campus-wide OFA stakeholder training programs on data systems, dashboards, BI solutions, and faculty activities and data reporting.
  • Work with faculty and administrators to maximize usability of faculty data and optimize user experience in reporting systems.

This position will report to the Director of Faculty Affairs Operations but involves considerable engagement and collaboration with the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. The successful incumbent’s decisions and actions will impact all units on campus that hire faculty because they will affect multiple procedures and data systems that are central to faculty hiring and authoritative faculty data.

  • Coordinate compilation and distribution of regularly scheduled and on-demand reports.
  • Coordinate compilation of ad hoc reports.
  • Coordinate operational, reporting, and applications research projects.

  • Build reports/BI instruments for administrators and other users.
  • Review, create, improve, audit, and manage interactive dashboards and user interfaces, independently and in coordination with other University and University System offices.
  • Perform research and analysis on specific issues and specialty reporting involving data mining, BI, critical evaluation, visualization, and reporting.

UGA Elements Development and Maintenance, User Support, and Project Administration:

  • Chair the UGA Elements Interface Action Team and Project Team; lead meetings, prepare communications, and arrange for payment of project expenses.
  • Build new activity types, maintain records on improvements, and serve on other action teams as needed.
  • Maintain UGA Elements’ interface settings, configure and update user groups and roles, respond to error messages, trouble-shoot problems with software vendor, and communicate known issues to campus.
  • Serve as liaison with UGA Elements’ IT support staff and primary contact point for support requests.
  • Regularly update support website, monitor Elements email account, and conduct user training sessions.
  • Survey system users annually to collect feedback.
  • Promote the system to University users, and external users, as appropriate.
