Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Postbaccalaureate Pre-Health (Sr. Academic) Advisor will provide critical support for numerous aspects of the Temple University College of Science & Technology Postbaccalaureate Pre-Health Program. 

This position is involved with all aspects of advising and includes the development, coordination and implementation of services geared to achieving, maintaining and improving student success and retention. Oversees the activities and services provided to students. Mentors advisors and other academic support positions to help assure students consistently receive positive and effective advising services. Exercises considerable autonomy. Acts as an advocate and referral source and provides consistent outreach and follow-up services. Helps initiate and implement student service initiatives.

The Senior Academic Advisor meets regularly with students to discuss academic and professional goals and assists with course selections and registration activities, including scheduling and academic standing. Prepares and presents student orientation and advising sessions. Coordinates advising with career planning and professional development and provides access to information and resources for achieving academic, career, and personal goals. Acts as a student advocate and referral source by providing consistent outreach and follow-up services. Works collegially with faculty, staff, and students to disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other related issues as they arise. Often represents the College at various related internal and external meetings and events and helps position Temple's Postbaccalaureate Pre-Health program as highly respected and proactive. Promotes the vision, mission, policies and procedures, and academic goals of Academic Advising, the College of Science and Technology, and Temple University while assisting with their development and implementation. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote). The duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the hiring department.

Required Education & Experience:

Relevant Master’s degree and at least three (3) years related experience that includes at least two (2) years of advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Demonstrated leadership/project management, training design, and delivery experience. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Strong verbal and written communication skills.

*Demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, health professions admissions offices, undergraduate pre-health advisors, and other members of the pre-health community.

*Knowledge of pre-health programs and project management.

*Flexibility and adaptability to complete additional projects while learning more about the program.

*Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and objective client service approach and attitude even when confronted with highly emotional students or parents in advising and counseling situations.

*Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Google Docs, forms, and sheets.

*Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.

*Meticulous attention to detail.

*Experience with Learning Management System Canvas.

*Knowledge of website editing and updating
