Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

:

In alignment with the mission, programs and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support and coordination of MSU Extension programs.

Unit Position Summary

Work collaboratively with the MSU Extension county staff and District 8 Supervising Educator to oversee volunteer efforts in support of summer 4-H programs. Attend relevant meetings and communicate with youth participants and families regarding opportunities and expectations. Serve as a public-facing representative for summer programs, working to expand program outreach to under-reached audiences. Manage risk keep supervisor and District Director apprised of any incidents. Applicant must be available June 1 - August 31, 2023 in support of the summer programming.

There will be space for this position to work from Gratiot, Alma, St. John, or Mason, MI.

Position Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Desired Qualifications

• Desire experience in program development and management in 4-H or other youth development program.
• High School diploma, some college level coursework preferred.
• Some volunteer management experience preferred.
• Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
• Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
• Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
• Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to diverse audiences/communities and proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
• Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
