Professor of Practice: Strategy and Leadership, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

This is a remote work position.

Rensselaer at Work, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s digitally delivered professional graduate programs for working professionals and their employers, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Professor of Practice: Strategy and Leadership.

The successful candidate will be an instructional faculty member with significant leadership experience in the areas of corporate strategy, market strategy, and market dynamics to teach in a graduate business program.

The position begins July 1, 2023. The initial appointment is for two years and may be renewed, contingent upon funding, performance, and the needs of the program.  The successful candidate will be an active practitioner with experience in strategy formulation, evaluation of markets, assessment of needs, and the use of analytics in strategy formulation. Experience at the c-suite level of technology-focused companies is desired. The incumbent will assist in developing, leading, and teaching a single project-based course over the full calendar year in a digitally delivered mentored doing-focused learning framework. Teaching responsibilities will be at the graduate level.

In addition to academic/professional qualification, Rensselaer at Work believes that “doing” leads to deepened learning and engagement for working professionals and seeks faculty members who attitudinally believe that mentorship is an important part of the teaching/learning process.

Candidates must have a JD, EdD, DBA or PhD in a field related to economics, strategy, or business and 10-15 years of substantive professional/academic experience in the described fields. Organization

Founded in 1824 as the first technological university in the English-speaking world, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute made an indelible mark on both the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, among the world’s pre-eminent research universities, Rensselaer offers students an interactive, interdisciplinary education — and a chance to be among the forces shaping the 21st century. Rensselaer students share a legacy of academic achievement, discovery and innovation, entrepreneurship, creative expression, and global leadership. Over time, as Rensselaer has evolved into a fully realized university of 5,100 undergraduates, this groundbreaking approach to educrensselaer_polytechnic_institute1.jpgation has generated wave after wave of innovation and discovery.

One Rensselaer graduate masterminded the first moon landing; another, the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. Our alumni invented e-mail and helped develop sunscreen. They have established and led successful enterprises, from Texas Instruments (inventors of the first silicon transistor) to Vicarious Visions (creators of Guitar Hero III).

Rensselaer is a diverse community of dreamers and doers who share several characteristics. They are drawn to the sciences and technology, and to disciplines ranging from architecture and business to literature. They love to tackle complex problems, and they have a sincere desire to improve the world. Yet the people of Rensselaer are true individuals: everyone who comes here seeks a pathway to greatness that is uniquely hirensselaer_polytechnic_institute3.jpgs or her own.

Distinguished faculty members work directly with students – doing research, solving problems, teaching, and interacting. This is where great adventure and new growth begin.
