Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder's PSAAP Multidisciplinary Simulation Center for Micromorphic Multiphysics Porous and Particulate Materials Simulations within Exascale Computing Workflows has an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct data-driven computational analysis of constitutive (or fracture) model parameters by post-assessing Computed Tomography (CT) and other image data for fracture and fragmentation experiments of bonded particulate materials. Such a data-driven computational inverse characterization approach will be required for the validation of micromorphic multiscale models by providing verification metrics. Successful applicants will have strong written and verbal communication skills, and interest in working within an interdisciplinary team to apply the following to real-world problems. A qualified candidate is required to have research experiences in:
  • Collaborative software development in Python (or C) with Git repository,
  • Computational mechanics for the boundary value and adjoint problems within the context of nonlinear setup, and
  • Scalable computation- and memory-intensive computing with point cloud data.

The position can start immediately. US citizenship is preferred.

Please send questions to jh.song@colorado.edu.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The PSAAP Center at CU Boulder is a Multidisciplinary Simulation Center (MSC) funded by DOE NNSA Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) focused on simulating with quantified uncertainty, from pore-particle-to-continuum-scales, a class of problems involving granular flows, large deformations, and fracture/fragmentation of unbonded and bonded particulate materials. The overarching problem is to predict the effects of processing on the thermo-mechanical behavior of compressed pristine and recycled mock high explosive (HE) material subjected to quasi-static and high-strain-rates, confined and unconfined compression, and in-situ quasi-static X-ray computed tomography.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

This position will develop in-house computational software in Python (or C) with Git repository. To this end, the employee will conduct research in developing data-driven computational analysis algorithms for the inverse characterization of constitutive (or fracture) models with Computed Tomography (CT) and other image data, and implementing it into in-house code. It is also required that writing peer-reviewed journal articles and communicate results at conferences, along with interact with technical staff at LANL, LLNL, and SNL.

What You Should Know

US citizenship is preferred.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary associated with this position is $60,000.
