Accountant/ Financial ReporterDescription/Job Summary

We are looking for a part-time Accountant to manage all department financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets.

The position responsibilities include reconciling statements and department financial activities tracked in several software systems and making regular reports to management. This position also manages the procurement process for the department in conjunction with Baltimore City Community College and assists the college’s financial comptroller with preparing for an annual audit.

Ultimately, the position provides accurate quantitative information on the financial position and transactions of the department while ensuring we’re compliant with Baltimore City Community College policies, and with their guidance, State of Maryland procedures.

The position reports to the department manager.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Manage all accounting transactions
  • Prepare budget forecasts
  • Publish financial statements in time
  • Handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Report on the department’s financial health and liquidity
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations
Required Qualifications
  • BSc in Accounting, Finance, or relevant degree
  • Work experience as an Accountant, Financial Reporter, or similar position.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (experience with Banner and State of Maryland FMIS a plus)
  • Good MS Excel skills
  • Experience with general ledger functions
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of work experience as an Accountant, Financial Reporter, or similar position.
  • Additional certification (CPA or CMA) is a plus
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry
