Job Summary

The Assistant Registrar is a member of the Office of the Registrar management team and serves as MGA's lead Veterans Certifying Specialist and the primary point of contact for students seeking Veteran's Educational Benefits. The Assistant Registrar will act as liaison between the university and Robins Air Force Base, provide leadership for established staff, represent the university at VA-related conferences, works independently with a great deal of autonomy, make judgement calls and decisions on a regular basis. This position is housed on the Macon campus and reports directly to the University Registrar.

Responsibilities

Serves as the University's Lead VA Certifying Specialist -

Oversees the process of VA students and their eligible dependents applying for educational benefits

Oversees the Veterans and Military Resource Center

Stay abreast of VA policy changes and works with appropriate departments on campus to ensure MGA remains in compliance

Maintains written policies and step-by-step standard operating procedures for certifying students

Monitors eligible VA students/dependents academic progress and maintains academic records

Attends VA-related conferences to gain insight on VA educational benefit policies

Travels between campuses to aid campus military student support efforts

Serves as point of contact for VA audits

Assists with Preparation of Required Reports for University System of Georgia -

Serves as analyst for the National Student Clearing House reporting

Serves as back-up for other Assistant Registrar for ADC error clean-up

Serves as administrator of imaging system and point of contact for Banner testing


Manages the VA Staff -

Supervise Veterans Certifying Specialist

Supervise Customer Service Representative

Performs related duties as assigned by University Registrar

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Required Experience
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years experiences in higher education.

Master's degree, in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Military experience

Knowledge of Veterans Administration (VA) policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the core functions of the Office of the Registrar.

Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Knowledge of data analysis and reporting.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply eligibility regulations
